Recorded in a stone barn in Andalusia, Spain, Boomerang (1989) is the celebrated second album from The Creatures—the adventurous duo of Siouxsie Sioux and Budgie. A drastic departure from the "armor" of the Banshees, this record strips away the gothic density to reveal a lush, unsettling landscape of exotica, flamenco rhythms, and brassy jazz. From the rhythmic bite of "Standing There" to the bluesy noir of "Killing Time" (later a favorite of Jeff Buckley), Boomerang remains a crowning achievement of experimental art-pop and "savannah-sunset" instrumentation.
