Debut studio album by the LA based duo (Bethany Cosentino and Bobb Bruno); a definitive cornerstone of the lofi and surf-pop revival that dominated the indie scene in the early 2010s.  The album became an instant sensation for its sunny but sad aesthetic, distilling the feeling of a hazy California summer into short, punchy tracks.  The record is famous for its bedroom production - heavy on reverb, distorted guitars and simple, driving beats.  It successfully merged 1960s "girl group" melodies (like The Ronettes) with fuzzy DIY grit of 90s indie rock.  Cosentino's lyrics are direct and relatable, focusing on unrequited love, boredom, lazy afternoons and her well-documented affection for her cat, Snacks (who appears on the album cover).
