Released in September 2009, Mariachi El Bronx is one of the most successful and celebrated genre-swaps in modern music history.  It features the members of the Los Angeles hardcore punk band The Bronx trading their electric guitars and aggression for traditional Mexican instruments and charro outfits.  The album is a sincere, meticulously researched tribute to Mariachi music that became a massive critical and commercial success.  The project began when the band was asked to perform an acoustic version of Dirty Leaves for a TV show; feeling the song was boring, the artists rearranged the song as a Mariachi track.  They fell in love with the musical style and its challenges and then spent two (2) years studying the genre and learning to play instruments like the vihuela and guitarron.  This album is a high-demand collector's item for fans of both punk and world music.
