VARIOUS ARTISTS - NORMAN GRANZ PRESENTS JAZZ AT THE PHILHARMONIC IN EUROPE

Step directly into the front row of Stockholm's Konserthuset on a biting winter night in 1960 with this magnificent 1981 Japanese vintage vinyl reissue of Jazz at the Philharmonic in Europe supervised by Norman Granz. Masterfully pressed on whisper-quiet, translucent virgin black vinyl by Polydor K.K. in Japan, this premier-tier Verve Records archival document stands as a jaw-dropping masterclass in pure bebop syncopation. The high-fidelity, monophonic analog grooves deliver an intensely intimate soundstage—perfectly separating Dizzy Gillespie’s blistering, fiery trumpet runs on the monumental 16-minute side-long track "Kush" from Stan Getz’s smokey, cool-jazz tenor saxophone swing on "Sweet Georgia Brown." Backed by J.J. Johnson's anchoring trombone and Lalo Schifrin's pristine acoustic piano comping, every transient room resonance and crowd roar punches through your speakers with stunning, organic realism. Complete with its pristine jacket and localized Japanese historical inserts, this beautifully preserved import is an absolute mandatory trophy piece for any serious jazz archivist or high-end audiophile library.

1981 Japan import/release by Verve Records, catalog # UMV 2568.  Reissue in mono, recorded at the Konserthuset in Stockholm, Sweden in 1960.

Sleeve grades VG+.  Excellent condition with obi intact.  A couple light corner dings and a sawcut in the upper left spine.
