CLAP YOUR HANDS SAY YEAH - SOME LOUD THUNDER

Second studio album by the Brooklyn-based indie band as the follow up to their massive, self-released 2005 debut.  This album was one of the most anticipated sophomore records of the decade and found the band taking a sharp turn into more abrasive, experimental and challenging territory instead of leaning into the bright, infectious pop of their first album.  Produced by Dave Fridmann (known for work with The Flaming Lips and Mercury Rev), the first track famously features vocals so distorted many listeners thought something was wrong with their speakers.  Fridmann brought a maximalist, psychedelic and often chaotic sound to the band's arrangements, layering toy pianos, synthesizers and unconventional percussion.  Many critics viewed the album's abrasive sound as a deliberate attempt to shake off casual fans and prove the band's artistic depth.  A quintessential album from the "Indie Era".
