DARYL HALL & JOHN OATES - BIGGER THAN BOTH OF US
Cruise into the slick, sophisticated dawn of blue-eyed soul and arena-pop with the original 1976 US first pressing of Daryl Hall & John Oates’ fifth studio album, Bigger Than Both of Us. Released via RCA Victor, this specific press block is highly distinct for its short-lived, mid-1970s powder blue center labels, manufactured primarily out of RCA's legendary plant in Indianapolis, Indiana. Recorded in Los Angeles at Cherokee and Sound Labs Studios under the direction of producer Christopher Bond, the 9-track layout captures the duo at a monumental commercial turning point. It features an incredibly tight West Coast rhythm section, including session legends Leland Sklar on bass and Jim Gordon on drums. The tracklist is famously anchored by the global mega-hit "Rich Girl"—which earned the duo their first-ever Billboard Hot 100 number-one single—alongside the infectious grooves of "Back Together Again" and the smooth, midnight r&b of "Do What You Want, Be What You Are". Complete with an 11" x 11" lyric and photo insert, this blue-label pressing is a warm, high-headroom analog testament to the structural architects of 1970s pop-rock.
1976 US release by RCA Victor, catalog # APL1-1467. First pressing in stereo made at Indianapolis with blue labels.
