Rare Original California political satire and punk/counterculture zine

An essential artifact from the bleeding edge of first-wave Los Angeles punk, this rare c. 1980 issue of Youth Party (Vol. 1, No. 3) delivers an unfiltered window into the scene's most chaotic era. Masterminded by Rick Wilder (frontman of the legendary Mau-Maus and Berlin Brats) under the pseudonym "Paul Picasso," this scarce fanzine bridges the gap between shock-art satire, Hollywood nihilism, and pure subcultural history. Inside, the issue features a hilarious, heavily stamped "CENSORED" interview with Black Randy (the iconic Dangerhouse Records mastermind and Metrosquad leader), alongside historic gig logs documenting legendary local shows featuring The Germs, The Go-Go's, Black Flag, Circle Jerks, X, and The Mau-Maus. Boasting vibrant red-and-black devil artwork on the cover, remarkably preserved newsprint, and complete pages intact, this ultra-rare piece of West Coast punk ephemera is a must-have centerpiece for serious archivists, music historians, and vintage zine collectors alike.

Youth Party, Volume 1, Number 3, published around 1980 by LA glam/punk Rick Wilder (frontman of The Mau-Maus and Berlin Brats) under the pseudonym Paul Picasso.  Both a fanzine and political/artist "party" concept run out of Hollywood, the publication deeply intertwined with the first-wave LA punk explosion.  Blends dark, nihilistic satire, shock art and anti-establishment provocations with Nietzsche quotes.  Other contributors include Associate Editor Justin Idiot (Justin Pierce - artist & musician) and Art Director Jeff (Jeff Drake - musician from The Joneses) among other various scenesters.

Mentions historic punk shows affiliated with the Youth Party crew including 10/31/78 (Germs, Go-Gos), 7/13/79 and 8/4/79 (Black Flag), 2/17/80 and 4/7/80 (Circle Jerks, Cheifs).  Short review of the 4/7/80 show mentioning The Mau-Maus, Circle Jerks, Reine M., Cheifs and Voxpops.  Two full page art features by Atila.  A "censored" interview with Black Randy (frontman of Black Randy & The Metrosquad and co-founder of Dangerhouse Records).  A short review of a Flipper album.  A scene review mentioning Go-Gos' farewell party, Pat Smear's arrest (Germs, Nirvana, Foo Fighters), "Germs played their last show to a packed crowd, before losing Don as drummer.  (Still looking for new drummer, prefer someone who knows how to hold sticks, but not essential)."  An interview with U.X.A.

Overall very good condition with intact staples and flat, complete, legiible pages.  Discoloration from aging and some rounding to the corners.  Two small tears along the seam connection the front and back covers (just the bent seam of those two pages, not through the other pages) - about 0.75 inches (2 cm) at the top and 1.5 inches (4 cm) at the bottom.  Tiny (about 0.5 cm) vertical tear at the top of the cover above the right side of the "Y" in Youth.  Two small white marks by the ear on the front cover.
