Explore an interesting historical pivot in the band’s British catalog with the original 1971 United Kingdom vinyl release of Gimme Shelter. Issued by Decca Records following the contentious dissolution of their contract with the band, this compilation arrived in stores parallel to the band’s own independent work. Though sharing a name with the band's harrowing Maysles brothers documentary, the LP functions instead as a unique dual-concept retrospective. Side One collects prominent studio masters from the peak 1968–1969 Jimmy Miller production era, highlighted by "Jumpin' Jack Flash," "Street Fighting Man," and the apocalyptic title cut. Side Two pivots sharply to the concert stage, repurposing live recordings originally tracked at London's Royal Albert Hall in 1966—including raw interpretations of "Under My Thumb" and "Fortune Teller". Housed in a front-laminated jacket featuring a live performance graphic, this initial British pressing captures a specific moment of major-label maneuverings over the Stones' formative catalog assets.

1971 UK import/release by Decca, catalog # SKL 5101.  First pressing of compilation in stereo.  Gimme Shelter misspelled as "Gimmie" on label.

Sleeve grades VG+.  Great finish/color/gloss and no issues on front laminate.  Intact spine/seams, de minimus edgewear.  Touch of ringwear on front, light ringwear on back.  Some small horizontal creases along spine and shaped but dinged corners.  Original inner sleeve included.

Vinyl grades VG.  Mostly plays VG+ but hearing some tiny crackle in spots.  Vinyl surface is mostly clean but has standard light surface marks and hairlines.
