Deadbeat represents a "lost"/limited-run project from Tame Impala (Kevin Parker).  In the world of Tame Impala collecting, this release surfaced quietly, separate from the primary album cycles of The Slow Rush or Lonerism.  Deadbeat is a stylistic pivot for Kevin Parker, leaning further into the heavy, rhythmic disco-funk and nocturnal synth-wave he began exploring on tracks like It Might Be Time.  The album is characterized by its massive, compressed drum sounds and a lofi/hifi hybrid production, moving away from the guitar-heavy psych of the artist's early years and embracing the studio-as-an-instrument approach.  Lyrically the album deals with themes of procrastination, social fatigue and the feeling of being out-of-sync with the pace of modern life.   It's a more cynical, yet danceable, look at the isolation of fame and the creative process.
