THE DOCTOR'S CHILDREN - THE CRICKETEERS, LONDON 13/8/86

A rare and rowdy snapshot of the mid-80s Medway scene, this recording captures The Doctor’s Children at the height of their brief but brilliant run. Performing at The Cricketers in Kennington, London—a legendary watering hole for the psych-garage and pub-rock underground—the band delivered a set that perfectly encapsulated their "Mod-meets-Garage" aesthetic.

Fronted by the charismatic Paul "The Doctor" James and featuring the rhythmic backbone of ex-Prisoners members Allan Crockford and Graham Day, the group was essentially a Medway supergroup. This August 1986 performance is prized by collectors for its raw energy and the inclusion of tracks like "The Other Side of You" and their frenetic covers that bridged the gap between 60s beat and 80s alternative. While they only released one studio album (Songs from the Shrubbery), live tapes like the Kennington set prove that The Doctor's Children were a formidable live force, trading in a brand of soulful, high-octane garage rock that kept the spirit of the Medway alive in the heart of London.
