Holo Boy features 10 re-recorded versions of songs written from 2014 to 2021, collected from 9 different This Is Lorelei releases, on a 2025 LP that plays at 45 RPM.  This Is Lorelei is the solo project of Nate Amos (half the indie duo Water From Your Eyes), who selected these tracks from his massive back catalog of over 60 Bandcamp EPs to give them a more cohesive, studio feel.  This title is a reference to the holodeck from Star Trek, a device that creates realistic simulations, used as a metaphor for revisiting past versions of himself and his music, projecting old emotions into a modern, polished light. 

The album leans into guitar-driven indie rock and gentle folk-rock, moving away from the more experimental, chaotic electronic sounds of his main band and reviewers described the tone as "honeyed melancholy" and "sweet-sad".  The album features themes of sleep, dreams and memory.  For fans, the album serves as a curated entry catalog into Amos' overwhelming discography, showcasing his evolution from a shy, DIY Bandcamp artist to a confident singer-songwriter willing to put his vocals and lyrics front and center.
